Candles from Valencia
Few places are as closely linked to fire as Valencia, the city of Fallas, where monumental sculptures are built over months and burned in a single night.
Beyond the festival, Valencia has long been home to a rich candle-making tradition. In the first half of the 20th century, more than 60 workshops shaped the region’s craft landscape. Today, only five remain, including the workshop Casa Maricruz collaborates with, where fourth-generation artisans Miguel and María José continue a tradition once devoted to churches, processions and local rituals.
Spanish craft, reimagined for today
The making process remains entirely traditional, using family tools passed down through generations and natural waxes such as beeswax and soy.
Within that framework, we introduce new forms, colours and surface treatments that expand the workshop’s creative language. From marbled candles to textured finishes, each design preserves the integrity of the craft while bringing it into a contemporary context.
