Ceramics from Granada: Redesigning tradition for the modern world

At CASA MARICRUZ, we bring new life to Spanish traditions, redesigning classic crafts for the modern world to ensure we perpetuate the handmade treasures that have surrounded us for centuries.

Our Granada Collection is a prime example of the fusion of past and future—a line of ceramics inspired by the rich history and cultural fusion of Granada, a city known for its Arab influence and artistic legacy. By reimagining centuries-old techniques, we blend history with modern design, ensuring these timeless pieces find their place in contemporary homes.

CERAMICS FROM GRANADA

Reviving Tradition

Our Granada Collection is deeply rooted in the rich legacy of Andalusian ceramics, a tradition dating back to the 8th century during the Andalusi era, which holds significant cultural importance in our country. Drawing inspiration from archival and museum pieces, we have contemporized this heritage to create everlasting unique objects.

Our goal is simple: to preserve the essence of this tradition while reimagining it for the modern life, ensuring that each piece carries the weight of history yet speaks to contemporary sensibilities.

1. Less ornamentation

While the original designs were known for their intricate ornamentation, we've chosen a different path. In our redesign, we've stripped away the excess, leaving intentional spaces of blank canvas. This reduction allows the design itself to stand out, giving each piece a refined, modern look that still echoes its historic roots.

2. Matte finish

For the first time, traditional Granada ceramics feature a matte finish. This combination of tradition and innovation ensures that our pieces remain true to their origins while being perfectly suited to today's aesthetic.

3. New colors

Miguel's workshop is pushing the boundaries of ceramic design with new colors and techniques, blending the latest technology with traditional craftsmanship to create timeless pieces that last for generations.

4. New shapes

Our redesigned plates offer a modern twist on traditional forms. Unlike the more elevated rims and deeper profiles of classic designs, our plates are flatter with a lower rim, and the entire collection explores modern shapes, making them more versatile for everyday use.
